Snake Removal in Valdosta

Last reviewed September 8, 2026 against Georgia DNR published rules and federal statute. How we research this site.

Most snakes found around Valdosta homes are harmless and beneficial. A few are not, and the difference matters.

Valdosta specifically

This far south the active season is long, and the Grand Bay wetlands complex north-east of the city sits at the edge of an 18,000-acre system of Carolina bays and forested swamp. Properties backing onto wet ground see more snakes, and they see them for more of the year than middle Georgia does. Most are harmless and useful; a few are not, and the identification is the part worth getting right.

Snakes in Lowndes County: who does what

Lowndes County Animal Services lists removal of rabies vector animals from inside the home among the services it provides, and refers broader human-wildlife conflict to UGA Extension. That is a genuinely different answer from most Georgia counties, where the county will not touch wildlife at all. It is worth knowing the limit of it: that covers the bat loose in your bedroom or the raccoon in your kitchen. It does not cover the colony in your roof, and it is not an exclusion; nobody is sealing the hole it came through.

For identifying an animal or damage before anyone is paid to look, the UGA Extension, Lowndes County office is at 2102 East Hill Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31601, 229-333-5185 (office page).

What Georgia law says about snakes

Georgia has 47 native snakes; the 7 venomous ones aside, all 40 non-venomous species are protected by state law, and the eastern indigo snake is federally protected too. DNR says the copperhead is usually the only venomous snake that does well in suburbs. Licensed operators may remove a venomous snake by any lawful method but must catch a non-venomous one alive, by hand. All Georgia rules →

Signs, and why they matter

  • A shed skin in a crawlspace, garage or shed
  • A snake seen in the garage, laundry, crawlspace or under a step
  • Rodent activity that suddenly stops: snakes follow their food
  • Venomous species do occur in this region and misidentification is common in both directions
  • Any suspected venomous bite is an emergency: call 911, do not attempt to catch the snake

How removal works

Identification first, then physical removal with proper hooks and tubes. Longer term the answer is habitat and rodent control; a house with no mice is far less interesting to a snake.

Snake questions

How much does snake removal cost in Valdosta?

$150 โ€“ $400 for removal of a single snake, depending on access and whether young are present. After a long stay in an attic the cleanup is often the bigger bill (attic restoration).

Is there a wrong time of year to deal with snakes?

Peak activity in spring and autumn, plus hot spells when snakes move into cool crawlspaces and garages.
